NAT39National/PoliticsCentral minister Elangovan slams Tamil Nadu governmentChennai, Sep 29 IANS E.V.K.S. Elangovan, a central minister and Congress leader, Monday criticised Tamil Nadu's DMK government for "undemocratic acts"."This regime claiming to have ushered in the 'Kamaraj rule' in the state is making a mockery of the late statesman's name by its undemocratic acts like denying freedom of expression, triggering rampant corruption and misrule," Minister of State for Commerce Elangovan said during a public meeting on the outskirts of Chennai."During the Kamaraj rule, one did not encounter reports of looting of natural wealth like sand on riverbeds, unreasonable demands from the complaining public in police stations and disallowing movies cleared by the censors like 'Kaadalil Vizhunthen'," he said.Movies totally critical of the Congress regime scripted by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi were allowed to be screened freely then, Elangovan recalled.Only the Congress can usher in the Kamaraj rule in Tamil Nadu, Elangovan added.Sun Pictures, owned by Kalanidhi and Dayanidhi Maran, Karunanidhi's estranged nephews, have alleged his elder son M.K. Azhagiri prevented the release of its "Kaadalil Vizhunthen" in Madurai and Ramanathapuram districts. The state government has denied the charges, made by all opposition parties.Elangovan, believed to represent a faction within the Congress insisting on its participation in a coalition ministry in the state, has launched an attack on the DMK after an interregnum of several months.Congress chief Sonia Gandhi had issued a fiat to the state unit of the party Wednesday to desist from demanding a share in power, reports from the capital had said. --Indo-Asian News Servicetsv/am/dg283 Words29091806
