NAT59National/DisasterHimachal seeks Rs.15.8 bn rain relief packageShimla, Oct 1 IANS The Himachal Pradesh government Wednesday sought a package of Rs.15.8 billion from the central government to undertake relief and rehabilitation measures following heavy rain and snowfall in the state during the past few months.Senior officials of the state government met a team of experts from the central government here and apprised it about the damage to the public and private property in the hill state, an official statement said. The team, headed by home ministry joint secretary Kashmir Singh, was on a three-day tour of the state to assess the weather-related damage. Chief Secretary Asha Swaroop apprised the central team that the state has incurred a loss of Rs.20.76 billion and sought Rs.15.8 billion to undertake relief and restoration work.Shimla district alone was badly affected during the recent rains, which claimed lives of 42 people and damaged 23,972 hectares of land under cultivation across the district.--Indo-Asian News Servicevg/ak/vt174 Words01101855
