community involvement in industrial
projects. Asked whether the landlosers in Canada wanted land or
financial component or integration with the
project, a top Canadian trade official said: "Basically, all of that. "Involvement of the local community is very important for the success of a project," Greg Giokas, Canada's director, Trade Commissioner
Service, foreign affairs and
international trade.Saibal Ghosh, trade advisor at the Canadian high Commission in
New Delhi, concurred: "The locals get a share of the earnings, they are given land and also get shares of the company." Citing the example of fast-food chain McDonalds, Giokas said: "Out of their earnings, they give back a lot to the community." Participating in an interactive session on "Enhancing Stakeholder
relationship with Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives: A Canadian Perspective", Giokas said labour
standards were a big issue in his country. --Indo-Asian News Servicessp/am/dg193 Words05112037
